ABC's Whodunnit is the most ridiculous thing you'll see on TV this summer. It's a reality competition where a dim-witted cast tries to figure out the clues and solve a weekly muuuurduur. The host and supporting players are hammy and heavy-handed (it worked great for Tim Curry in the 1985 Clue adaptation but here seems so out of place). Part of hosting a successful murder mystery party is having the right mix of guests who will get into the spirit of the game. Unfortunately, the casting here is terrible. As is the ambiance which is ruined by a brightly lit mansion where you'd expect Hugh Hefner to turn the corner at any moment. A dimly lit, gothic Victorian mansion would have been a much better setting. With no stakes or interesting players, the fun is completely drained out. This sort of makes you long for days of Harper's Island.
